The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports:

  • There are over 800 workplace homicides each year.
  • 18% of all violent crime occurs in the workplace.

Continuum Worldwide offers you an opportunity to partner with experienced consultants to mitigate the risks of workplace violence (WPV) through our multi-dimensional WPV Prevention Program. With our help, your organization can mitigate liability and create a safer workplace.

Assess:

Assessing your organization’s environment includes understanding the vulnerabilities that may put your people at risk.

  • Are there policies and procedures governing WPV prevention?
  • Is there a history or culture of violence or threats in the workplace?
  • Are all employees trained on potential signs of WPV?
  • Are supervisors and managers trained on their responsibilities?
  • Are there reasonable physical and procedural safeguards in place?

Anticipate:

Anticipating requires you to ensure appropriate planning and preparation, should a WPV incident occur.

  • Train employees and managers on warning signs and responsibilities.
  • Develop procedures to include response & escalation protocols.
  • Identify and train a threat management team.
  • Ensure there are intervention and separation strategies in place.

Act:

Acting in a timely and efficient manner is critical when responding to WPV incidents. Not getting it right the first time may result in catastrophic consequences for employees and the organization.

  • Respond to all threats or acts of violence regardless of severity.
  • Investigate fully to assess credibility of the threat.
  • Take action to mitigate the threat – short term and long term.
  • Document all incidents and assess the need for additional training.
